The President of the Employer’s Organization of Spa Tourism in Romania (OPTBR), Nicu Radulescu, stated that Romania’s spa resorts require investments of over €1 billion, funds that could come from both the private sector and the state budget.
He says that measures must be taken in areas with springs, with massive investments being necessary at a national level.
Radulescu specified that the most important resort remains Baile Herculane, where significant investment is needed. It is the oldest resort in Romania, with over 2,000 years of documented history.
“The money could come from European funds, own sources, and local and county council budgets. And it is necessary for this to span a longer period of time. Sources can also be attracted from the capital market. But here, the investor must see that you have resources. It is a huge volume of investment that needs to be carried out in spa resorts. To be able to measure it exactly, we will have to work with the Association of Mayors,” stated the OPTBR representative.
Nicu Radulescu is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the spa tourism company Tusnad SA. He specified that Tusnad SA intends to attract €2-3 million in financing from European funds for the modernization of Hotel Tusnad, which has 216 accommodation places classified at 2 and 3 stars.
