Romania Removed from Dertour Catalogs

Romania has become the only country in the region that is no longer promoted in the catalogs of major tour operators in Germany, a state that was recently the main provider of tourists for the local market.

After TUI and Neckermann, the Dertour company has now also given up on promoting offers from Romania.

The removal of our country from the catalogs is justified by the deficient infrastructure, the small number of quality hotels, and the very high rates they charge.

In 2012, TUI stopped printing Romania’s tourist offer in its catalogs, and in the fall of 2015, Neckermann, the German subsidiary of one of the world’s largest tourism groups, Thomas Cook, decided that Romania would no longer appear in its catalogs after a 3-year presence.

Now, Romania’s weaknesses were also presented in the latest issue of one of the largest tourism magazines in Germany, Touristik Aktuell, a publication read by over 112,000 specialists in the field. The magazine published an editorial dedicated to Eastern Europe, which discusses Slovenia, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Croatia, and Bulgaria. The only remark regarding Romania belongs to Katrina Holzbrecher, product manager at DER Touristik Frankfurt, who gives the country a “black ball” for the fact that infrastructure is deficient, and hotel offers are few and at very high prices.

Until last year, Romania was presented in the Dertour catalogs, a brand of DER Touristik, on 15 pages, with a complex offer including several group tours, individual car routes, stays on the coast and in the Danube Delta, city breaks, and holidays in spa and mountain resorts.
