Romania could have the first beach in Europe designed for people with disabilities starting in 2018

Starting with the 2018 summer season, Constanta will be the first city in Europe to have a beach specially designed for people with disabilities.
The project is initiated by psychologist Adrian Gemanaru, nominated at the World Autism Festival for developing recovery therapies for children with autism and other disabilities.
The beach sector in the Faleza Nord area, covering a total area of 22,000 square meters and with a 200-meter sea opening, is provided by the Dobrogea-Litoral Basin Administration for therapeutic activities organized by the “Marea Neagra” Center in Constanta.
The therapeutic park will include two sunbed areas totaling 100 spots, two sheet areas totaling 1,000 spots, access ramps, an event stage, a sensory relaxation garden, a hydration point, two playgrounds, an auditory stimulation zone, and a visual and tactile stimulation zone, a sensory alley, a pottery workshop, floating mobile chairs for people with disabilities, and a first aid tent.
For people with locomotor difficulties, the project organizers will install a special material access ramp on the beach, allowing them to move with ease. Additionally, people with disabilities will benefit from 3 floating mobile wheelchairs to enjoy the seawater.
Children presenting a range of sensory difficulties will benefit from two special zones: auditory stimulation (outdoor-adapted musical instruments) and visual and tactile stimulation, which will offer them the opportunity to experience the surrounding world through these three senses.
Implementing this project requires a budget of approximately EUR 100,000, and the “Marea Neagra” Center in Constanta is seeking support from tourism professionals and local authorities.
Access to the existing facilities will be offered to children with special needs, people with disabilities, and their families free of charge.
