Republic of Moldova Takes the Lead of the Global Medical Tourism Council

The Medical Tourism Association of Moldova (ATMM) has become the president of the Global Medical Tourism Council for the first time. In this capacity, the Association aims to transform the Republic of Moldova into a top destination for medical tourists from around the world over the next two years.

The Republic of Moldova currently offers medical services for foreigners in dentistry, in vitro fertilization, interventional cardiology, and plastic surgery.

“We want to develop non-invasive dermatology, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, and balneo-sanatorium services as well, because we have potential that has not been explored until now,” stated the President of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova, Natalia Ciobanu.

By developing medical tourism, authorities aim to increase the number of tourists and the duration of their stay in Moldova, attract investment in the medical industry, diversify tourism offerings, and increase the revenues of this sector.

Additionally, other priority objectives will be the digitalization of the medical system and the creation of the Healthtech park in the town of Codru.

Two years ago, the Medical Tourism Association was created in the Republic of Moldova, which subsequently became a member of the Global Medical Tourism Council and organized the first medical tourism forum, where Moldovan medical clinics presented their medical offers.

According to statistics, about 30% of tourists visiting the Republic of Moldova come for medical purposes, attracted by the quality of services and advantageous prices.
