Public voting has begun for the Destination of the Year 2024 competition, the most significant tourism promotion project in Romania. For the first time, the Republic of Moldova is participating in this prestigious competition. Thus, until May 8, citizens of the Republic of Moldova can vote for their favorite destinations at www.destinatiaanului.ro. Over 120 tourist destinations from Romania and the Republic of Moldova are competing across 13 categories.
Voting involves:
- choosing a single destination from each category, then entering an email address you have access to at the end;
- logging into the entered email address and clicking the confirmation button.
Destinations from the Republic of Moldova can be voted for until May 8 in the following categories:
- Cities that inspire: Chișinău – the tourist capital of Moldova;
- Lands of tradition and history: Soroca District;
- Eco-tourism regions: Plaiul Fagului Nature Reserve, Ungheni district;
- Storybook village: Văleni Village, Cahul district;
- Cultural-educational attractions: “Țipova-Saharna” Museum Complex, Rezina and Căpriana Monastery, Strășeni district;
- Epic boutique accommodations: “La Tudora” Pension, Ștefan Vodă district.
While the competition recorded approximately 300,000 public votes in 2023, over 500,000 votes are expected this year.
The winning destinations will be chosen based on a score calculated across three levels: the public vote on the www.destinatiaanului.ro platform, the jury’s vote, and the results of the Visionary Destinations research.
In the Best Promotion category, the winners will be chosen exclusively by the decision of the jury, which at this stage consists of over 200 members.
The winners of this year’s competition will be announced on May 21 on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum. The Destination of the Year Gala is held in partnership with the Bucharest City Hall, as the host of the event.
In last year’s edition, 2023, the winners were: Brașov (Cities that inspire), Bucovina Monastery Land (Lands of history and tradition), Hațeg Land (Natural Treasures), Mamaia (Tourist Resorts), Iași Palace of Culture (Cultural-Educational Attractions), Dino Parc Râșnov (Amusement and Adventure Parks), Green Village Sfântu Gheorghe (Resorts), Hotel Pleiada Iași (Boutique), Valea Verde Retreat (Gastronomic Experiences).
