Record 1.138 Billion International Tourists Recorded in 2014

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced that last year the number of international tourists reached a record level of 1.138 billion people, 51 million more than in 2013. With a growth of 4.7%, this is the fifth consecutive year in which international tourism continues to grow above the long-term trend projected by UNWTO for the 2010-2020 period (3.8%).
According to UNWTO, Europe consolidated its position as the world’s most visited region, with 588 million tourists, an increase of 22 million people compared to 2013.
Leading the way were Northern Europe and Mediterranean Europe, both with a 7% increase, while international tourism recorded a more modest growth in Western Europe of 2% and stagnated in Central and Eastern Europe, after 3 years of solid growth.
For this year, UNWTO estimates an increase in international tourist arrivals between 3 and 4%.
