Radisson Blu Hotel, Bucharest achieves BREEAM In-Use “Excellent” certification

Radisson Blu Hotel, Bucharest has achieved BREEAM In-Use certification with the “Excellent” rating for both building performance and management, becoming the first 5-star hotel in Bucharest to achieve this level. The importance of this achievement goes beyond a simple recognition, setting a new benchmark of sustainability and operational efficiency in the Romanian luxury hotel market. The performance validates a long-term commitment to responsible practices and demonstrates that investments in sustainability can co-exist with the premium guest experience, responding to the growing demand for green tourism and corporate services.

Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest, part of the Radisson Hotel Group, has become a benchmark in the sustainable hospitality industry in Romania after obtaining the double BREEAM In-Use “Excellent” certification. This performance places it not only as the first 5-star hotel in the Capital with this distinction, but also as the only one nationwide with an excellent rating in both categories assessed: Asset Performance (Part 1) and Management Performance (Part 2). Nationwide, only ten hotel properties hold a BREEAM In-Use certification.

The assessment, which covered an area of 45,000 square meters, revealed high scores in key areas, reflecting the hotel’s operational efficiency. The Energy (82.6%) and Resources (81.25%) categories confirm low operating costs and low environmental impact, while performance in Health and Wellbeing (75.38%) attests to a high level of comfort and safety for guests and employees.

Achieving the certification is the result of a two-year transformation process in which the Radisson Blu team implemented sustainability measures and optimized operations. Atakan Turhan, General Manager of the hotel, said the achievement “reflects our deep commitment to sustainable hospitality”. For his part, Vlad Drăgoescu, Partner at Revetas Capital, emphasized that the certification validates the “substantial investment” and the teams’ combined efforts to align environmental performance with the premium experience.

The commitment to sustainability is backed by concrete investments. Last year, the hotel completed a €1.6 million renovation of its event facilities, a project that will result in an estimated annual reduction of 40 tons of CO₂ emissions. The growth strategy continues, with 63 new rooms added this year and a further 62 planned by the end of 2025, integrating environmental responsibility into development plans and aligning with Radisson Hotel Group’s global goal of achieving Net Zero emissions.
