Public Sector Employees May Receive Holiday Vouchers This Year or Next

Public sector employees will receive a holiday voucher, equal in value to one gross national minimum basic salary, either this year or next year, depending on employee requests and the institution’s financial availability for 2017, according to the new version of the government program.
Initially, the vouchers were to be granted starting in July of this year, with a draft emergency ordinance being prepared, but it was not approved by the Government.
Currently, the gross minimum wage is 1,450 RON, which will represent the value of the voucher to be granted.
According to current legislation, employees in the private sector and those in the public sector can receive holiday vouchers up to a limit of 6 gross minimum salaries (not just a single salary as currently prepared), which can be used only in Romanian tourism.
The vouchers are fully supported by the employer, and the amounts are deductible when calculating corporate income tax. However, the Government has postponed the granting of these vouchers every year.
