Progress in the construction of the Chisinau-Strășeni-Călărași aqueduct: EUR 45 million investment to supply water to the Center region

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, chaired a meeting to review the state of works on the Chișinău-Strășeni-Călărași main aqueduct, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at connecting the capital’s central water supply system with the cities of the Center region. The total investment in this project amounts to EUR 45 million, with financial backing largely from external partners.

The project “Improvement of the water infrastructure in Central Moldova”, implemented by the Central Regional Development Agency, benefits from a grant of EUR 40 million provided by the German Government through the KfW Development Bank, while the Moldovan Government’s contribution is EUR 5 million. With a length of over 50 kilometers, the new infrastructure will provide, in the first stage, a safe and sustainable source of drinking water for over 35,000 inhabitants of the cities of Straseni and Calarasi. During the discussions, attended by local authorities and regional operators S.A. “Apă-Canal Strășeni” and “Apă-Canal Călărași”, the technical and institutional capacities of the operators to manage the service at district level were analyzed, as well as the prospects for the future connection of other localities to the main water supply line.
