Patronatul Mamaia, which includes several hotels and restaurants on the coast, along with the Phoenicia chain, will finance, starting this year, the schooling of several vocational classes for cooks, waiters, and maids. During their 3-year studies, they will be required to complete several weeks of internships at the companies providing financial support.
This is the first time that the private sector on the coast has become involved in the schooling of young people and is collaborating, in this regard, with the County Inspectorate.
Thus, both Patronatul Mamaia and Phoenicia Hotels will support the studies of seven classes of waiters, cooks, and maids for 3 years, from the 9th to the 11th grade, with 200 RON/month each, stated Anca Nedea, the executive director of Patronatul Mamaia.
Four of these classes are financed by the Phoenicia chain, and three by Patronatul Mamaia, on whose behalf the Tomis, Parc, Astoria, Dorna, Delta, Ovidiu, Del Mar, Riviera, and Zenith hotels, as well as the Irish Pub and Melody restaurants, have entered the program.
The courses will be organized in several vocational schools in the city, and Anca Nedea states that, according to the law, hoteliers cannot force students, even if they finance them, to work for them after finishing school. Instead, they have one month of laboratory work each year and several weeks (3 in the first year and 10 in the last) of practice in the respective hotels, during the period requested by the hotelier.
Each class will have 18 students, who will attend laboratory and practice hours accompanied by a tutor, whose role is both to supervise them and to guide them in their future jobs.
