In 2016, the number of officially registered tourists in the Danube Delta decreased by 16.8%, to 71,674, compared to 2015, a year that can be considered a reference point for this decade, with 86,086 tourists, according to data published on the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration website.
„Unfortunately, there is no real situation that includes the number of visitors who did not pay the access fees to the Delta. I believe the real number of visitors to the Reserve last year was much higher, nearly 100,000,” stated the Reserve’s governor, Grigore Baboianu.
