Over 60,000 tourists are expected to arrive on the seaside for May 1st, 15% more than in 2014, with the most sought-after resorts being Mamaia and Vama Veche. For the first time in recent years, several thousand foreigners will also visit, especially from Great Britain, France, and Germany.
Mirela Matichescu, Vice President of the National Authority for Tourism (ANT), stated that the application of the 9% VAT rate for tourism packages makes hoteliers’ offers more complex this year than in previous years.
Nicolae Bucovala, President of the Mamaia Employers’ Association, estimates that over 25,000 tourists will come to the resort this year, meaning all accommodation spots will be occupied.
The ANT representative specified that over 3,000 foreign tourists are expected to arrive on the coast for May 1st this year.
Cristian Radu, the Mayor of Mangalia, expects a 7% increase in the number of tourists in the resorts of Neptun-Olimp, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Cap Aurora, and Mangalia, compared to the 22,000 who visited last year.
He said that several hundred foreigners will also arrive in the resort, mainly from Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium, for treatments in balneotherapy structures.
Marius Usturoiu, owner of the Mareea travel agency, stated that in the order of bookings recorded so far, the most requested hotels are 3 and 4 stars, especially in the northern area of Mamaia, located near the clubs.
Cristian Barhalescu, director of the Icar Tour agency in Constanta, stated that all classified accommodation spots in Vama Veche have already been booked.
In 2014, approximately 90,000 Romanians spent their May 1st mini-vacation in the country’s resorts, 10% fewer than the previous year, spending approximately 50 million RON on accommodation, meals, and entertainment.
