Over 36,000 people chose to celebrate in hotels in Romania’s major cities, an increase of approximately 3% compared to the previous year.
Increases were recorded in the Danube Delta and on the Coast, although the number of tourists in these destinations remains very small.
Regarding the rates charged during the holiday period, it is noted that they increased by an average of 5% compared to 2017. Thus, Romanians spent over RON 172 million on New Year’s packages in the country, an 11% increase from the previous year.
The most sought-after areas were Prahova Valley, Poiana Brasov, Paltinis, Ranca, Straja, Calimanesti, Felix, and traditional rural areas like Bran-Moieciu, Maramures, and Bucovina.
The number of those who spent the winter holidays abroad increased by approximately 8% compared to 2016, reaching about 11,000, with spending up 13% compared to last year. Most purchased packages for skiing and winter sports destinations in Austria, France, Italy, and Bulgaria.
