Oradea Airport will be closed between July 6 and September 2, 2015

Starting July 6, 2015, Oradea Airport will be closed until September 2 for the construction of a new runway.
The operational director of Oradea Airport, Marian Ghitea, stated that the second stage of the airbase modernization program begins on July 6, requiring the suspension of all flights.
The new runway will be 2,100 m long, compared to 1,800 m currently, thus allowing the landing of high-capacity aircraft.
In February 2014, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Oradea Airport signed the financing contract for the project "Extension and modernization of airport surfaces at R.A. Oradea Airport".
The project was approved under the Sectoral Operational Program "Transport" 2007-2013 and has a value of 129,709,555 RON, of which 81,601,511 RON constitutes non-reimbursable financing granted by the European Commission through the European Regional Development Fund. The amount of 35,181,349 RON is provided from the state budget, and the contribution of the Bihor County Council is 12,926,695 RON.
The project also includes the implementation of a Category II luminous lighting system and an embarkation-disembarkation platform that can ensure the parking of 6 aircraft.
All works are expected to be completed in October of this year.
