Non-resident tourist spending in Romania rose to over 6.8 billion RON

The number of non-resident tourists staying in collective tourist accommodation structures in 2019 was 2.669 million, and their expenditures totaled 6.895 billion RON, according to data published Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), which shows that last year non-resident tourists arriving in Romania spent an average of 2,583 RON/person.
The total number of non-residents staying in collective tourist accommodation structures in the fourth quarter of 2019 was 563,700, with their expenditures totaling 1.41 billion RON.
Business represented the main reason for the stay for 54% of non-resident tourists arriving in Romania in the fourth quarter of 2019, with their spending accounting for 56.7% of the total.
46% of non-resident tourists arriving in Romania in the fourth quarter traveled for private purposes, mainly for holidays (66%) and visiting friends and relatives (16.4%).
Of the total business expenditures, the largest share was for accommodation (50.6%), with accommodation including breakfast being particularly preferred.
Non-resident tourists’ spending in restaurants and bars was 17.4%, while shopping expenditures represented 14%.
