New Zealand authorities announced on Friday that they will introduce a special tax for foreign tourists, with the funds raised to be used for infrastructure development.
In the last three years, the number of foreign visitors has increased by almost 30%, reaching 3.8 million tourists in the period April 2017 – April 2018, which is almost as much as the entire population of 4.5 million of New Zealand.
Thus, from the middle of next year, a tax of 25 – 35 New Zealand dollars (15 – 21 EUR) will be imposed on foreign tourists, and this will be added to the decision to increase fees and the cost of immigration visas, which will come into force in November of this year. In contrast, Australian citizens and those of the member states of the Pacific Islands Forum will be exempt from paying the new tax.
