To prepare their vacations related to legal holidays in advance, MPs adopted on June 26, 2019, a bill that obliges the Government to establish, by January 15 of each year at the latest, all the free days to be granted in that year, before or after legal holidays, so that public sector employees can benefit from a mini-vacation.
For 2019, the elected officials calculated that Romanians could benefit from 5 mini-vacations and claim that the measure would also help the private sector and increase productivity.
The authors argue that not only public sector employees will benefit from such a measure, but also private companies, which will thus be able to better manage their activities in relation to the public sector’s mini-vacations.
To enter into force, the new law must still be promulgated by the head of state.
