The Ministry of Tourism has drafted a Government Ordinance aimed at establishing the Destination Management Organization (DMO) to promote Romania’s destinations.
The implementation of this concept will allow for tourism development, with direct implications for increasing tourist traffic and the volume of tourism revenues at both local and national levels.
The DMO will include representatives from the state, as well as from private accommodation and public catering units. Together, they will decide how funds for promoting a specific destination will be spent. Until now, this decision was made at the level of the mayor’s office or the county council.
A tourist destination can be an administrative-territorial unit or part of an administrative-territorial unit, depending on the location of natural and anthropic resources, the document’s authors specify.
Romania must establish an integrated destination management system that ensures sustainability, plays an integrating role, and provides a development vision at the level of an administrative-territorial unit, region, or the country as a destination, while also acting as a coordinator and support in developing competitive destinations, the project emphasizes.
