The international hotel group Marriott International is analyzing the possibility of introducing its luxury brands St. Regis and Ritz-Carlton on the Romanian market, aiming to open in Bucharest within the next five years. The announcement was made by Pankaj Birla, the group’s regional vice-president for Eastern Europe, who considers Romania’s capital to be a suitable location for a St. Regis-branded hotel.
According to the stated strategy, the company is looking for a central, “ground zero” location to develop an exclusive 90-120 room hotel in an iconic building. In addition to this luxury project, Marriott has an accelerated expansion plan in the local market. The group currently operates six hotels in Romania and has four others in various stages of development. The medium-term objective is to bring the Marriott network in Romania to a total of 15-20 hotels within five years.
