Lidl logistics center in Lugoj: 20 million euro investment and 100 jobs

The German retailer has announced that it will invest over 20 million euros in its latest project in Romania: the company’s fourth warehouse, located in Lugoj. The center will be built on a 140,000 square meter plot of land, will lead to the creation of 100 new jobs, and will be dedicated to the south-western part of the country. Details regarding the new project had been expected since last autumn, when the construction company Bog’art brought its first equipment to Lugoj and began work on the site.
Lidl logistics center in Lugoj: 20 million euro investment and 100 jobs. The most significant project Lugoj has seen in recent years is being commissioned by the German company Lidl and executed by the Romanian construction firm Bog’art. The German retailer’s fourth warehouse will be the result of an investment of over 20 million euros – with a surface area of 45,000 square meters, the new logistics center will be built on a 140,000 square meter plot on Timisoarei Street in Lugoj. The location was chosen due to its proximity to the A1 and A6 highways, as the warehouse will manage and ensure the transport of products to units in the south-western part of the country.
„The rapid pace of the company’s expansion and the need to supply the South-West region of Romania necessitated the development of this project, for which we chose the services of a Romanian firm with expertise in constructions of such magnitude. We want to build a sustainable building, implementing the latest and most performant technologies to bring the new logistics headquarters up to European standards,” stated Lidl Romania representatives.
According to the building permit from September 2015, a logistics warehouse, an administrative building, offices, and a service area with parking will be erected here.
Built using modern solutions and technologies, the buildings will be sustainable, with a reduced impact on the environment.
With the inauguration of the new logistics center, approximately 100 new jobs will be created, according to the German retailer’s representatives.
„Lidl will continue its investments in Romania, in parallel with creating new jobs at a national level. Currently, we have over 4,200 employees in the store network, regional distribution centers, and the headquarters,” the company representatives specified.
Started in the 1930s in Germany, the Lidl store chain currently operates in 26 European countries, with over 100 logistics centers. With over 170,000 employees, Lidl is among the top ten food retailers worldwide.
