International tourist numbers rose by 7% in 2017
In 2017, the number of international tourists worldwide increased by 7%, reaching 1.32 billion, the highest level in the last 7 years, announced Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
For 2018, an advance of 4% – 5% in the number of foreign visitors globally is estimated.
In 2017, the most significant advance, of 8%, was recorded in the case of foreign tourists visiting Europe, and especially the Mediterranean region, while Africa consolidated its recovery started in 2017.
Important increases were recorded in the Asia-Pacific region – 6%, in the Middle East – 5%, and in North and South America – 3%.
