INS: Romania Was Visited by 1.17 Million Foreign Tourists in the First Seven Months of the Year

Tourism in Romania experienced a remarkable evolution in 2023, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In the first seven months of the year, Romania was visited by 1.17 million foreign tourists, most of whom came from Germany, Italy, and Israel. During the same period, departures of Romanian visitors abroad, recorded at border points, reached 11.02 million, an increase of 15.2% compared to the same period last year.

In July of this year, 1.77 million tourists were registered in tourist reception structures, 7.3% more than in July 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. Of the total number of tourists accommodated, 234.9 thousand (+25.3% compared to July 2022) were foreign tourists, with more than half, 132.7 thousand, coming from European Union countries. Seaside resorts were the most visited, accounting for 28.9% of the total number of accommodations, while Bucharest and county capitals attracted 27.8% of visitors, and mountain resorts 17.3%.

Regarding the number of nights spent in Romania, in July 2023, these totaled 4.37 million, an increase of 7.4% compared to those in July 2022. Of the total number of overnight stays, 11.0% were by foreign tourists. The average length of stay was approximately 2.5 days for Romanian tourists and 2.0 days for foreign tourists.

In July 2023, 1.97 million Romanians traveling abroad were recorded at border points, an increase of 8.0% compared to July last year.
