Iași Airport will build a second photovoltaic park, five times larger than the one recently inaugurated. In this regard, the Iași terminal will submit a project to access non-reimbursable funding. “Ensuring energy independence is a strategic objective,” say the officials of the autonomous regie.
Currently, Iași Airport is the only one in the country that owns a functional photovoltaic park. It has a capacity of 1MWh and is built on one hectare, providing nearly a quarter of the airport’s energy consumption. The project cost 900 thousand EUR.
“We are glad that autonomous regies were also considered eligible, thus having the possibility to access these funds for the construction of photovoltaic parks. In this sense, we have already started the project for building the second photovoltaic park, 5 times larger than the current one, to ensure the future sustainability of the airport. Given that the deadline for submitting funding projects, July 27, is very short, we will have to work against the clock to complete the necessary documentation,” stated the head of the airport, Romeo Vatră.
According to him, ensuring the airport’s energy independence is a strategic objective, considering the experience of strong fluctuations in the energy market over the last two years.
The capacity of the second photovoltaic park will be 5 MWh and will span an area of 5 hectares, next to the existing park. On April 23, the submission period for projects for the production of electricity for self-consumption using solar energy begins.
