Hotel Rex in Mamaia back up for auction with a starting price of EUR 10 million

The Rex Hotel in Mamaia, an active symbol of the Romanian seaside and a historical monument, is being auctioned for the third time, with the starting price set at EUR 10 million. The sale procedure, which includes both the hotel complex and the parking lot, is organized by the bailiff Constantin Adrian Stoica in order to recover a debt of almost EUR 7 million.

The new auction is scheduled for March 5, 2026, at 10:00 am, and will take place in Constanța, at 15 George Enescu Street. It comes after a previous attempt scheduled for February 17, 2026 and other attempts run towards the end of last year. The assets put up for sale consist of an intravilan plot of land with a measured area of 7,426 square meters (7,000 square meters in the deeds) and the building itself, Complex Hotelier Rex. The building, structured on six levels (ground floor, reception floor and four storeys), has a floor area of 4,776 sq.m. The package also includes the hotel parking lot, which occupies an area of 2,345 sq.m.

Inaugurated on August 15, 1936 by King Carol II, Hotel Rex was at that time the most modern and luxurious hotel in the Balkans. Situated near the former Royal Palace and Casino, the Art Deco-style building served as a hub for the political and diplomatic class during the inter-war period. After the Second World War, the building was used by Soviet troops, later transformed by the communist regime into the “1 Mai” rest home, and reintroduced to the international tourist circuit in the 70s. After 1989, the hotel was privatized, but it was taken off the tourist circuit in 2011 and underwent a rehabilitation process in 2021.
