Holiday Vouchers to be Replaced by Holiday Allowance

From December 1, holiday vouchers worth 1,450 RON will be eliminated. This provision is found in the salary law. The vouchers will be replaced by a holiday allowance at the level of a minimum gross basic salary, which is currently 1,900 RON.
It is not clear how this money will be granted, but one working option would be for it to be offered in cash, as a holiday bonus. Meanwhile, more and more guesthouses in the country are refusing holiday vouchers. During peak season, hoteliers prefer cash.
“Hotels do not want to receive vouchers because they have to send them for settlement, they can receive their money after 2-3 weeks, and there is also a 1% commission paid to the voucher issuers,” stated Alin Burcea, first vice-president of ANAT.
The method by which the allowances will be granted is to be established through a Government Decision.
According to travel agencies, holiday vouchers have led to an increase in sales for domestic tourism packages.
