Last year, the number of international tourist arrivals worldwide increased by 6%, reaching 1.4 billion people, hitting this milestone two years earlier than predicted, according to a recent estimate published by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
This growth is mainly due to international tourists traveling to Southern Europe, where their numbers recorded a 7% increase in 2018 compared to 2017. Overall, the number of tourists who came to Europe last year increased by 6%, reaching 713 million people.
For 2019, UNWTO expects a growth of between 3% and 4% in the number of international tourists.
