On December 28, general councilors adopted the project proposing the establishment of a special tax for the tourism promotion of Bucharest for the year 2017.
According to the draft resolution, the tax is calculated by applying a 1% rate to the accommodation price for each day of the tourist’s stay, a value that does not include VAT. The special tax is collected by the accommodation unit upon registration of the guests.
The Mayor of the Capital mentioned that this is not a new tax, as it was also collected in previous years by the sector city halls, stating that starting next year, solutions will be sought to use these funds for the promotion of Bucharest.
The Mayor of the Capital also specified that it involves over 1 million EUR annually, an amount that could reach 2 million EUR, provided there is efficient collection of this tax.
