The main reason for the stay was business, participation in congresses, conferences, courses, fairs, and exhibitions (65.5% of the total number of non-resident tourists), with their spending representing 66.1% of the total.
The second reason for the stay was travel for private purposes (34.5% of the total number of non-resident tourists), with holiday travel standing out (60.4%).
Of the total business expenditures, the largest share was for accommodation – 52.7%, with accommodation including breakfast being preferred – 89.8%.
Non-resident tourists’ expenditures in restaurants and bars were 19.2%, while shopping accounted for 11.7%.
Of the total shopping expenditures, 38.9% represented spending on food and beverages, followed by spending on gifts and souvenirs at 36.4%. Car rental expenses accounted for 51.5% of total transport costs, and expenses for entry tickets to museums, tourist attractions, and zoos/botanical gardens represented 50.7% of total recreation expenditures.
Of the total foreign tourists arriving in Romania, 47.5% organized their stay through travel agencies, while 34.2% organized their stay independently.
The main means of transport used by non-resident tourists to arrive in Romania was the airplane – 81.1% of the total number of tourists. Private cars represented 11.4%, followed by coaches and buses at 5.6%, and other means – 1.9%.
