First Destination Management Organization Established in Suceava

The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism issued on December 6 the first permit in Romania for the establishment of a Destination Management Organization (DMO).

Suceava received the establishment permit for the first locally developed DMO in Romania. This entity is intended to support the development of tourism in the area and is based on a public-private partnership, also involving the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți.

The Destination Management Organization “Suceava – City of the Seat Fortress” is composed of the following founding members: the Local Council of Suceava Municipality, the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți, the National Museum of Bukovina, “Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, Complex Zamca, Mandachi Hotel&Spa, the EXIMTUR travel agency, Shopping City Suceava, and Iulius Mall. The president is the mayor of Suceava, Ion Lungu.

To establish a local DMO, the destination must be certified as a tourist resort of local/national interest or have a minimum of 100 accommodation spots in classified tourist reception structures. Among the mandatory minimum criteria, we also mention the inclusion of at least one tourist destination manager position in the organizational structure. Regarding the tourism development and marketing strategy, as well as the action plan, these can be developed and adopted within a maximum of 1 year from receiving the permit.
