Overnight stays recorded in tourist reception structures in January 2018 totaled 1,361.6 thousand, an increase of 9.6% compared to those in January 2017. Of these, 78.1% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 21.9% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.
Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 74.3% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 75.7% were from countries belonging to the European Union.
The average length of stay in January 2018 was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in January 2018 was 21.7% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 1.6% compared to January 2017. Higher occupancy rates in January 2018 were recorded in hotels – 26.9%, tourist villas – 18.5%, tourist guesthouses – 17.4%, hostels – 15.7%, and tourist chalets – 15.1%.
Most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions came from Israel – 17.7 thousand, Italy – 16.9 thousand, Germany – 14.6 thousand, France – 9.4 thousand, and the Republic of Moldova – 9.2 thousand.
Foreign visitor arrivals in Romania, recorded at border points, were 807.2 thousand in January, an increase of 22.4% compared to January 2017. The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 90.9%. Of the total foreign visitor arrivals in Romania, 51.1% come from European Union states. Among the European Union states, the most arrivals were recorded from Bulgaria – 29.4%, Hungary – 22%, Italy – 10.9%, Germany – 6.7%, France – 5%, and Poland – 4.6%.
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, recorded at border points, were 1,711.4 thousand in January, an increase of 13.6% compared to January 2017. Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 70.1% of the total number of departures.
