Evolution of arrivals and overnight stays in the first two months of 2016

Arrivals registered in tourist reception establishments in February 2016 totaled 630.7 thousand, an increase of 19.2% compared to the same period in 2015. Of these, 79.4% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists and 20.6% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.

Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 77.7% of the total foreign tourists, and of these, 85.1% were from countries belonging to the European Union.

Overnight stays registered in tourist reception establishments in February 2016 totaled 1,247.7 thousand, an increase of 16.9% compared to those in February 2015. Of these, 79.4% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 20.6% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.

Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 75.3% of the total foreign tourists, and of these, 82.5% were from countries belonging to the European Union.

The average length of stay in February 2016 was 2 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists. 

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in February was 22.5% across all tourist accommodation establishments, an increase of 1% compared to February 2015. Higher occupancy rates in February 2016 were recorded in hotels – 28.4%, hostels – 16.6%, tourist villas – 16.2%, tourist guesthouses – 16%, motels – 14.5%, and tourist chalets – 13.3%.

Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 551.3 thousand in February, an increase of 10.2% compared to February 2015. The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 94.3%. Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 54.4% come from European Union states. Among the European Union states, the most arrivals were recorded from Bulgaria – 29%, Hungary – 27.5%, Italy – 9%, Germany – 7.1%, Poland – 5.2%, and France – 4.2%.

Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border points, were 968.7 thousand in February, an increase of 17.7% compared to February 2015. Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 67.2% of the total number of departures.

In the period January-February 2016, arrivals registered in tourist reception establishments totaled 1,211.9 thousand, an increase of 17.9% compared to the same period in 2015. Of these, 79.1% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists, and 20.9% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.

Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 76.4% of the total foreign tourists, and of these, 80.7% were from countries belonging to the European Union.

Overnight stays registered in tourist reception establishments in the period January – February 2016 totaled 2,392.9 thousand, an increase of 16.4% compared to the same period in 2015. Of these, 78.1% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 21.9% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.

Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 74.3% of the total foreign tourists, and of these, 75.9% were from countries belonging to the European Union.

The average length of stay in the period January 1 – February 29, 2016, was 2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists.

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in the first two months of 2016 was 21.2% across all tourist accommodation establishments, an increase of 1.5% compared to the same period in 2015.

Higher occupancy rates were recorded in hotels – 26.5%, tourist villas – 16%, hostels – 15.4%, and tourist guesthouses – 15.2%.

The most arrivals of foreign tourists staying in tourist reception establishments with accommodation functions came from Italy – 30.7 thousand, Germany – 25.8 thousand, Israel – 24.4 thousand, France – 16.3 thousand, and the United Kingdom – 16 thousand.

Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 1,093 thousand in the analyzed period, an increase of 5.3% compared to the same period in 2015.

The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 94.2%. Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 53.7% come from European Union states. Among the European Union states, the most arrivals were recorded from Bulgaria – 29.7%, Hungary – 28.5%, Italy – 8.8%, Germany – 6.6%, Poland – 5.2%, and France – 3.9%.

Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border points, were 2,145.4 thousand in the analyzed period, an increase of 14.6% compared to the period January – February 2015.

Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 68.2% of the total number of departures.
