Evolution of arrivals and overnight stays in the first ten months of 2016

Arrivals registered in tourist reception structures in October 2016 totaled 880.8 thousand, an increase of 8.6% compared to those in the same period of 2015. Of these, 73.7% represented arrivals of Romanian tourists and 26.3% represented arrivals of foreign tourists.
Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 73.6%, and of these, 86.4% were from countries belonging to the 
European Union. 
Overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures in October 2016 totaled 1,946.0 thousand, an increase of 4.7% compared to those in October 2015. Of these, 77.6% represented overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 22.4% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.
Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 72.9%, and of these, 85.3% were from countries belonging to the European Union.
The average length of stay in October 2016 was 2.3 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists.  
The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in October was 30.1% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 1.3% compared to October 2015. 
Higher occupancy rates in October were recorded in hotels – 39.3%, hostels – 20%, tourist villas – 18.9%, tourist guesthouses – 18.4%, and inns – 17.5%.  
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border crossing points, were 864.5 thousand in October, an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period in 2015.
The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 92.4%. Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 55.7% come from European Union states. Among the EU states, the most arrivals were registered from Hungary – 29.1%, Bulgaria – 27.4%, Italy and Germany with 8.3% each, Poland – 4.3%, and France – 3.8%.
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border crossing points, were 1,282.8 thousand in October 2016, an increase of 44.2% compared to October 2015. Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 65.2% of the total number of departures.

Of these, 81% were overnight stays of Romanian tourists and 19% represented overnight stays of foreign tourists.
Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 73.1%, and of these, 83.8% were from countries belonging to the European Union.
The average length of stay in the period January – October 2016 was 2.5 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreign tourists.
The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in the analyzed period was 31.8% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 2.2% compared to the first ten months of 2015.
Higher occupancy rates were recorded in hotels – 40.1%, accommodation spaces on ships – 26.1%, tourist villas – 25%, and bungalows – 23.9%.
 
The most arrivals of foreign tourists stayed in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions came from Germany – 249.8 thousand, Israel – 217.4 thousand, Italy – 198.7 thousand, Hungary – 125.2 thousand, and France – 126.3 thousand.
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border crossing points, were 8,795.5 thousand in the period January – October 2016, an increase of 10.2% compared to the same period in 2015. The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 92.9%. 
Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 54.1% come from European Union states. Among the EU states, the most arrivals were registered from Hungary – 28.6%, Bulgaria – 27%, Germany – 8.7%, Italy – 7.5%, Poland – 5.6%, and France – 3.7%.
 
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border crossing points, were 13,833.9 thousand in the analyzed period, an increase of 24.5% compared to the same period in 2015.
Road transport means were the most used for departures abroad, representing 69.3% of the total number of departures.
