Evolution of arrivals and overnight stays in March 2019

Arrivals recorded in tourist reception units increased by 5.1% in March 2019 compared to the same month in 2018, and overnight stays recorded an increase of 6.7%, according to data announced on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Arrivals recorded in tourist reception structures in March 2019 totaled 800,400, an increase of 5.1% compared to those in March 2018. Of these, Romanian tourist arrivals represented 78.9%, and foreign tourist arrivals represented 21.1%.
Regarding foreign tourist arrivals in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe, namely 74% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 83.5% were from European Union countries.
Overnight stays recorded in tourist reception structures in March 2019 totaled 1.519 million, an increase of 6.7% compared to those in March 2018.  Of these, 77.7% represented Romanian tourist stays and 22.3% represented foreign tourist stays.
Regarding foreign tourist overnight stays in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe, namely 71.9% of the total number of foreign tourists, and of these, 83.2% were from European Union countries. 
The average length of stay in March 2019 was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreign tourists. 
Foreign visitor arrivals in Romania, recorded at border points, were 820,000 in March 2019, an increase of 2.8% compared to March 2018. Romanian visitor departures abroad, recorded at border points, were 1.47 million in March 2019, an increase of 7.3% compared to March 2018.
