In the first ten months of this year, the occupancy rate of 25.43% in the Danube Delta was similar to the same period in 2019, according to the situation transmitted by the Danube Delta Tourism Destination Management Association (AMDTDD). Last year, the indicator was 19.28%, the number of overnight stays decreased between 2019-2021, and the number of legal accommodation structures increased.

Tourism in the Danube Delta has proven to be sustainable. 2020 was atypical and irrelevant. The fact that we managed to reach the same indicator as in 2019 demonstrates the health of this type of tourism, stated AMDTDD President Cătălin Țibuleac.

The number of overnight stays in accommodation units decreased from 384,033 in 2019 to 302,285 in 2020 and has already reached 277,758 in 2021. The number of people arriving in the Delta decreased from 168,412 in 2019 to 119,429 in 2020 and increased to 135,135 in 2021. At the same time, the number of authorized accommodation places increased from 10,951 in 2019 to 11,789 in 2020, and in 2021, 12,508. “The fact that tourists choose to stay in the Delta for seven days instead of three, the fact that the number of tourists increased this year compared to 2020, and the fact that we do not have tourist pressure over a short period shows that the Romanian tourist understands what the Danube Delta means,” the AMDTDD president also stated.
