Cluj-Napoca welcomed 370,000 tourists in 2016, surpassing its population

In 2016, the city of Cluj-Napoca was, for the first time, a city with more tourists than inhabitants, specifically 370,000 visitors, an increase of 15% compared to the number of tourists recorded in 2015. The municipality’s population recorded at the last census is just under 325,000 inhabitants.
Most of the foreign tourists came from Europe and the United States.
Of the nearly 370,000 visitors, almost a quarter were foreign tourists. Compared to 2015, their number increased by over 10%.
Regarding the origin of the tourists, the first place is occupied by Romania, followed by France, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, the USA, Poland, Israel, and Hungary.
For this year, it is estimated that the number of tourists will increase. Also, local authorities are investing over 9 million RON to create larger pedestrian zones and to open new attractions.
Cluj-Napoca was in 2016 the fourth most visited municipality in Romania, after Bucharest, Constanta, and Brasov.
