Shareholders of the hotel company Aro Palace are expected to agree on the affiliation of Capitol Hotel with the Mercure brand of the French group Accor.
Investments in the renovation of the 181-room hotel amount to approximately EUR 11 million and are set to begin in January 2024. The hotel is expected to re-enter the tourism circuit by the end of 2025.
Capitol Hotel was inaugurated in 1974 and has 184 rooms. Following the rebranding, the hotel is expected to upgrade from two to three stars, and the number of rooms will decrease in favor of other services required for the classification and to meet the standards of the future hotel brand to which the accommodation unit will be affiliated.
Shareholders have to choose between brands proposed by five hotel chains – Hilton, IHG, Marriott, Accor, and Louvre.
The Accor Group owns the hotel brands Sofitel, Pullman, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, All Seasons, Etap, Formule 1, and Motel 6, with over 4,000 units open worldwide. In Romania, six hotels operate under the Mercure brand, but none of them are in Brasov.
