Bucharest’s Henri Coanda and Aurel Vlaicu airports are in the European top five for airports that recorded the highest air traffic growth in the first quarter of 2017.
 
Henri Coanda International Airport, which recorded a 21.4% increase in air traffic, ranked 5th, after Reykjavik-Keflavik (Iceland), Kyiv, Larnaca (Cyprus), and Malta, in the category of airports with 5 – 10 million passengers per year.
Baneasa Airport recorded a 679% increase and ranked first in the category under 5 million passengers per year, being followed by Nis (Serbia), Oradea, Mykonos (Greece), and Zadar (Croatia).
In the first three months, in the category of airports with over 25 million passengers/year, the ranking is: Moscow Sheremetyevo, Manchester, London Gatwick, Amsterdam, and Oslo.
In the 10 – 25 million passengers/year category, the top spots were held by Warsaw, Saint Petersburg, Lisbon, Prague, and Brussels.
In the first three months of this year, the Bucharest Airports National Company recorded air traffic of 2.6 million passengers and 28,249 aircraft movements at the two Bucharest airports.
