For the first time, the Christmas Fair in Brăila has been included in the offers of national tour operators, positioning the city as a new destination for the winter holidays, alongside established centers such as Sibiu or Brasov. This premiere is a direct result of the local administration’s decision to relocate the event to the recently renovated Historical Centre, a strategy aimed at revitalizing the area and attracting visitors from all over the country.
A Bucharest-based travel agency has already capitalized on this new status, launching a dedicated tourist package for the weekend of 13-14 December 2025. Priced at 570 lei (around €112) per person, the offer includes one night’s accommodation in a 3-star hotel with half board and a guided cultural tour of local sights such as the “Maria Filotti” Theater and the “Panait Istrati” Memorial House. The centerpiece of the package is a visit to the fair, which will take place in Traian Square and Mihai Eminescu Street. Mayor Marian Dragomir said that moving the event to the “heart of Braila” brings the city in line with European standards and will offer a unique experience.
To support the tourist appeal, the authorities are promising large-scale festive lighting and a number of specific attractions. These include little houses decorated by local painters, a light-up dome, locally produced fairy-tale characters, three monumental fir trees, a themed tree made from books and a “Grinch tree”. There will also be an outdoor ice rink and children’s play areas. The concept is based on a public-private partnership, actively involving hotels, cafes and restaurants in the Old Town. The artistic program will include carol singers, concerts by artists such as Narcisa Suciu and the Antic Band, along with local talents and artists from Cahul, Republic of Moldova.
