Overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures in January 2015 totaled 988.5 thousand, an increase of 17.7% compared to January 2014. Of these, Romanian tourist overnight stays represented 77.6%, while foreign tourist overnight stays represented 22.4%.
Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe – 76.4% of total foreign tourists, and of these, 72% were from European Union countries.
In January, the average length of stay was 1.9 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate of accommodation places was 18% for total tourist accommodation structures, an increase of 2.3% compared to January 2014.
Higher occupancy rates were recorded in hotels – 22.1%, tourist villas – 14.4%, and tourist pensions – 13.1%.
The most arrivals of foreign tourists came from Italy – 12.6 thousand, Germany – 10.6 thousand, Israel – 10.1 thousand, the Republic of Moldova – 7.8 thousand, France – 6.9 thousand, and the United Kingdom – 6.1 thousand.
Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, were 537.8 thousand in January 2015, an increase of 18.6% compared to January 2014. The majority of foreign visitors come from countries located in Europe – 94.4%.
Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 58.1% come from European Union states. Among the European Union states, the most arrivals were recorded from Hungary – 31.7%, Bulgaria – 31.5%, Italy – 7%, Germany – 6.8%, Poland – 4.8%, and Austria – 3%.
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border points, were 1049.2 thousand in January 2015, an increase of 19.7% compared to January 2014.
