ARCHE Association Launches ARCHE Heritage Talks to Revitalize Romanian Castles and Manors

The ARCHE Association has launched the ARCHE Heritage Talks discussion series, aimed at bringing together owners of historical monuments and other stakeholders involved in protecting cultural heritage.
The first edition took place on October 11th at Hanul lui Manuc and addressed the subject of castles and manors in Romania.
The event was attended by owners and administrators from across the country who own properties in various states of conservation, their common factor being the desire to transform them into tourist destinations and success stories.
The ARCHE Heritage Talks initiative was based on research conducted by the ARCHE Association team since 2008 through the “Forgotten Monuments” (Monumente Uitate) project, an initiative that inventoried approximately 1,300 castles and manors in different areas of the country. Of these, more than half are in a precarious state of conservation, while less than 10% are integrated into the tourist and economic circuit.
In detail, 744 still-existing sites were studied, along with approximately 300 vanished ensembles, with the rest to be studied in the future. Of the 744 castles and manors researched, 101 have been recently rehabilitated or are undergoing rehabilitation, 226 have benefited from maintenance and are in good condition, 326 are in medium or poor condition, 59 are in pre-collapse, and 30 are in ruins.
The event organized by the ARCHE Association highlighted the need to establish effective communication bridges between all actors involved in saving castles and manors.
The ARCHE Association aims to research, protect, conserve, enhance, and promote cultural heritage. It aims to draw attention, alongside other profile organizations, to the fact that heritage is a sensitive and sophisticated resource, in constant need of knowledge and responsible management.
