Gheorghe Boeru, the president of Romair Consulting, stated that the objectives of the second stage of the project include widening the beaches by over 100 m in the areas of Mamaia, Eforie, Costinesti, Mangalia, and 2 Mai, covering a length of over 30 km of coastline, up to the border with Bulgaria. The project includes the rehabilitation and construction of two sluices in the northern area, which will connect the lake and the sea in the Gura Portitei area.
Romair Consulting has launched the evaluation mission for the project “Technical Assistance for Project Preparation Priority Axis 5, Reduction of Coastal Erosion Phase II, 2014 – 2020”, funded through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program.
During the mission, the project’s status was analyzed in comparison with the first implemented stage, through the project “Protection and rehabilitation of the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea coast in the area of Constanta municipality (Mamaia South, Tomis North, Tomis Center, and Tomis South) and Eforie North”.
The project to be implemented will focus on Eforie Center and South, where the beach is only 6-7m wide.
While in the first stage Romania gained 42 ha, the new project aims to increase the beach area by approximately 350 ha.
If today the project is approximately 650 million EUR, in the future it can be developed up to the value of approximately 900 million EUR, including maintenance and upkeep costs, work monitoring costs, environmental monitoring costs, and other physical monitoring costs of the proposed structural and non-structural solutions.
