A New Ice Hotel at Bâlea Lake

Preparations have begun for the 2023 – 2024 season of the “Hotel of Ice Bâlea Lac” project, which is built annually in the Făgăraș Mountains, Sibiu County, for the 17th consecutive year—a unique tourist attraction in Romania.

This year’s theme is “Modern Art in Ice,” and each room in the upcoming hotel will bear the name of a well-known contemporary artist, with the interior decor being inspired by modern art.

Every year, in the glacial cauldron of Bâlea Lake, located at an altitude of over 2000 m in the Făgăraș Mountains, the Ice Hotel, the Ice Church, and igloos are constructed using ice blocks extracted from the lake.
