By the end of this year, the county road leading up to the Sarmizegetusa Regia Dacian fortress in the Orăștie Mountains will be modernized based on a project with non-reimbursable European funding totaling 9.41 million EUR. The contract was signed on April 10 at the Hunedoara County Council headquarters.
The project involves the modernization and asphalting of the road between Costești and Sarmizegetusa Regia, covering a length of 17.9 km. Additionally, seven bridges will be rehabilitated, and 12 parking areas, including spaces for coaches, will be established.
Authorities in Hunedoara County believe that implementing the project and asphalting the access road to the former capital of Dacia will provide the opportunity to showcase the Sarmizegetusa Regia monument.
The project, titled “Modernization of access roads for the integration of the Dacian fortresses in the Orăștie Mountains into the European tourist circuit,” has a total value of 9.41 million EUR, of which 7.45 million EUR represents non-reimbursable funding, with the remainder being the beneficiary’s co-financing.
