67% of Romanians Save Money for Vacations

65% of Romanians who participated in a survey conducted by momondo.ro are going to spend their vacation in one of the cities in Southern Europe for a week, the three most sought-after destinations for this year being Barcelona, Lisbon, and Palma de Mallorca.

Over 26,000 people participated in the study conducted by momondo.ro in 26 countries, including 1,000 Romanians. Four of the five destinations with the highest growth this year are those with access to the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean.

Searches for the city of Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores islands, increased by 393% compared to last year, followed by those for Antalya, Turkey.

Madeira and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are two other cities sparking the interest of Romanians this year.

The top five domestic destinations preferred by Romanians are Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Constanta, Timisoara, and Iasi.

The travel study shows that 67% of Romanians save money for their summer vacation, compared to 53% globally. Moreover, 34% of Romanian respondents said they prefer to refrain from shopping or going out to save money for their long-awaited vacation. During the vacation, 43% of Romanians prefer to spend less on shopping and only 18% would give up on excursions or sightseeing.
