4% Increase in Global International Tourist Arrivals in 2019

Global international tourist arrivals grew again last year, for the tenth consecutive year, by up to 4%.
In total, 1.5 billion international tourist arrivals were recorded worldwide last year, 54 million more than in 2018.
All regions enjoyed an increase in international tourist arrivals, but the top three spots are occupied by France, Spain, and the USA.
The regions most affected by the slowdown in the growth rate of international tourists are: Europe, where the number of tourists grew by 4% in 2019, after a 6% advance in 2018, and Asia-Pacific with a 5% advance in 2019 after 7% in 2018, where the impact of the political crisis in Hong Kong was felt.
Africa also suffered a slowdown in international tourist arrivals, which grew by 4% in 2019, after a 9% increase in 2018.
The Middle East became the region with the strongest growth rate in international tourist arrivals, with an 8% advance in 2019 after 3% in 2018, particularly as a result of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plan to attract more foreign tourists.
