The Cluj-Napoca Local Council announced that it will support the “Cluj-Napoca 2021 – European Capital of Culture” project with 15 million EUR, the amount to be allocated in installments over a 6-year period, starting in 2017, should the municipality win this title.
The Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, stated during the Local Council meeting that the total budget of the project amounts to 35 million EUR, with funding also to be provided from government funds – 10 million EUR, European funds – 1.5 million EUR, the Cluj County Council – 6 million EUR, and sponsors – 2.5 million EUR.
67% of the total project budget will be allocated to the cultural program and pilot programs, 15% for promotion and marketing, and 18% represents general expenses and a reserve fund.
