France intends to host 100 million foreign tourists in 2020 and, in this regard, plans to allocate 1 billion EUR to develop the tourism sector through an investment platform that was launched on October 8.
"We must redouble our efforts to remain the world’s leading tourist destination," stated Laurent Fabius, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, at a conference with industry professionals. Recalling that
Tourism represents 7.5% of GDP and over 2 million jobs, he also emphasized that tourist facilities in France must be equipped with quality infrastructure in sufficient numbers throughout the French territory.
The tourism investment platform was launched by Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), a public financial institution acting on behalf of the state. The platform is intended to facilitate the development of accommodation capacities and tourist facilities, as well as online tourism.
