In the north of the Republic of Moldova, hidden between cliffs and hills, lies one of the oldest inhabited places in the country – the Duruitoarea Veche gorge in the Riscani district!
Here you’ll find a cave inhabited by prehistoric people over 20,000 years ago – with stone tools, bones and fire pots found right in the rock.
The scenery is spectacular – a limestone gorge, steep cliffs and a peaceful view of the Duruitoarea River.
You can still visit the area:
The wooden church “St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel” in the village of Duruitoarea Veche – built in traditional style, simple and authentic.
Costești Village Museum – with ethnographic exhibits and objects from old peasant households.
Costești-Stânca Dam – impressive engineering and with a nearby recreational area.
Duruitoarea Veche Landscape Reserve – perfect for hiking, birdwatching and photography.
