Tețcani Landscape Reserve, located in the lower part of the Vilia River, north of the locality of Tețcani in the Briceni district, within the Lipcani, Tețcani forest reserve, plot 35, is a protected natural area with a surface of 164 ha. The administration of this object is shared between the Edinet State Forestry Service, responsible for 114 ha, and the Tețcani Village Hall, which manages 50 ha. As a landscape reserve, Tețcani is the westernmost in the Republic of Moldova, offering a captivating panorama of local biodiversity and natural beauty. The forest ecosystems of the protected areas harbor numerous ephemeral and ephemeroid plant species, including trees and shrubs traditional for the forest area, with rare exceptions of exotic species. Rare species that help justify protected status include:
- red oak and palustrum, but the threat of an orchard (intensively treated with chemicals) in the vicinity of the forest poses a threat to the ephemeral flora and the Vilia river;
- rare plant species, such as the sweet marigold (Padus avium Mill.), the verigarul (Rhamnus tinctoria), the clochocactus (Staphylea pinnata), the crocus (Frangula alnus), the pichthorn (Frangula alnus), the pichthorn (Viburnum opulus), the yellow omagul (Aconitum anthora), the asparagus (Asparagus officinalis), the white snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) and the forest vine (Vitis sylvestris), all included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova;
- rare species of animals such as Nyctalus noctula, Eptesicus serotinus, Pipistrellus nathusii, Columba palumbus, Dendrocopos medius, Dendrocopos minor, Lullula arborea, Turdus pilaris, Turdus viscivorus, Certhia familiaris, Carduelis cloris, all included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova, as well as Vespertilio murinus, Martes martes, Felis silvestris, Hieraaetus penatus, Vipera berus and Coronella austriaca.
