The Danube Delta has won the Grand Prize of the “Destination of the Year 2025” Gala, one of the most important competitions for tourist destinations in Romania, which is based on the votes of the online public, as well as on the votes of a jury of experts in the field, and a nationally representative sociological research.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Tourist Destination Management Organization (TMO) Tulcea, the award reaffirms the tourism potential of the Danube Delta and the county’s capital and confirms the efforts made by authorities and private companies to attract visitors to the area, the TMO Tulcea assuming the participation of the tourist destination Danube Delta in the competition.
After winning the Grand Prize, Tulcea will host next year the fifth edition of the “Destination of the Year” competition, which is appreciated as “a unique opportunity to promote local hospitality and the beauty of the Danube Delta”.
More than 70 areas from Romania and the Republic of Moldova entered the “Destination of the Year 2025” competition in six categories, with Tulcea County appearing in two of them, “Enchanted Lands” and “Fairytale Villages”. In the latter category, the village of Mila 23 won second prize, after Rimetea, Alba County, and ahead of Breb, Maramureș County.
Over time, the Danube Delta has also won awards from organizations that promote sustainable tourism, including the Golden Apple Award in 2009 from the International Federation of Journalists and Tourism Writers.
